City Cool, Johnson Controls, and ADC Energy Partner for Sustainable Cooling in Medina
"City Cool" Leads Consortium in Partnership with "Johnson Controls Arabia/York" and "ADC Energy" to Develop a Cooling Station Serving the Knowledge Economic City in Medina.

City Cool, a leading company in the development of District Cooling Systems, has signed a collaboration agreement with Johnson Controls Arabia/York and ADC Energy to develop a district cooling station serving the buildings and facilities developed by the Knowledge Economic City in Medina.

The agreement, in line with the Kingdom's sustainability and energy optimization goals, includes the construction of a cooling station with a capacity of 21,000 cooling tons, in two phases in the central area of Knowledge Economic City, serving the commercial center and other towers.

This collaboration signifies significant progress in district cooling services in the Kingdom, especially in integrating sustainability with energy optimization. The services will be provided on a Build, Operate, Own, and Transfer (BOOT) basis, with City Cool leveraging its Expertise in project development and financing through project finance methods. Additionally, City Cool will provide operation and maintenance services for 25 years from the start of operations. Johnson Controls Arabia/York will supply high-efficiency YORK chillers, and ADC Energy will undertake the engineering, procurement, and construction of the district cooling plant.

The CEOs of the collaborating companies signed the agreement with Mr. Mohammed Al Mubarak, CEO of Knowledge Economic City, in attendance. The signing ceremony was also attended by high-ranking officials from the four entities, emphasizing their joint commitment to advancing the district cooling industry in and beyond Saudi Arabia.

This partnership aligns with the goals of Vision 2030 to enhance national partnerships with the private sector and develop economic alliances, transforming Saudi Arabia into a global logistics hub. It also represents a crucial step forward in integrating innovation and sustainability into the country's infrastructure and urban development.

Engineer Abdulsalam Al Mobayed, CEO of City Cool District Cooling, expressed optimism about such strategic partnerships and City Cool's readiness to support this project to become an exemplary model in the Kingdom.

It is expected that this partnership will deliver unique services in the cooling sector, achieving unprecedented energy efficiency through the latest technologies. This collaboration marks a significant step and a turning point in the history of developing and implementing environmentally friendly cooling solutions in the Kingdom. A District Cooling System (DCS) produces chilled water within a centralized energy plant and distributes it through underground pipes to buildings connected to the system, providing them with air-conditioning. This innovative approach is set to revolutionize traditional cooling models in the region, providing a cost-effective and sustainable solution that benefits both the environment and end-users.
